I am just wondering if a new 150hp opti or etec would have similar performance to the '98 200 Mariner efi 2 stroke currently on my v213c haines.? Price is the motivating factor for my query!!!! Would 150hp be inadequate for this boat?

If your after a harbour cruiser the 150 would do

If you want to get anywhere in a reasonable time you need 200 + on that Hull

So Gary....a question if I may.
What would the real world performance difference be in old mates '98 model 200hp Marineer and say...a new 200 etec or similar 2 stroke?
Assume the old Marineer is in good nick.

Good question! I've wondered the same thing....guessing the older motor would be somewhat heavier, so power:weight ratio would be considerably different?(And also where they measure HP on the older motor vs newer?)

Performance wise the Etec should have better torque through the RPM rage with its beter fuel delivery negating some of the flat spots in the torque curve that the mariner would have.

I would estimate 10-15% Improvement in performance but the real gain would ben in fuel consumption 30-50% and up to %70 at idle

I am no expert on this matter but just general thinking I cant see how it would be an improvement.

This might sound silly but 200HP is still 50 more then 150hp.
I understand that fuel systems have improved but how can you make a 150hp gain 50hp ??

I wouldn't take a 6 cylinder motor out of a landcruiser and put in a 4 cylinder and think your going to get an improvement.

The old 213c are a heavy boat. They need every bit of a 200, preferably a 225 if you like to go fast. 150 would be reving its ring out and using way more fuel.

Totally agree and I've had some real world experience with this.

A 200hp 98 model anything thats in good condition will smoke a 2011 150hp anything.(both 2strokes)
