gidday all,
hit murphys with jason this arvo. conditions werent great to start with but nothin was stoppin us today.
we anchored up just before 3pm and got a couple livies to the bottom. after 5 mins mine goes off and i land my first ever cobia. only a small one measuring just under 80cm but was stoked.
half an hour goes by and i say to jason its just about snapper time... about a minute later im on to a good fish and we get it in and it measures at 76cm. a good snap and a good start to the session.
long story short we got a snapper about every hour or half an hour i guess. with not much in between. they measured in at 76cm, 80cm, 85cm, 89cm and my new pb snapper at 91cm!!! she went 8.5kg. jason caught the 89cm snap and i managed to pull the other 4 in. that was his pb too. so both stoked with the session.
i got smoked by what we think was a spanish and jason got reefed by somethin massive that took alot of line. and lost a couple nice snapper in there somewhere too.
bloody stoked with the arvo session and cant wait to get back out there.
cheers aaran.

yea all bait brendan. will be throwing a plastic or 2 out next time though.

the weather is lookin pretty good this weekend no fear, i think you will have to get in early to get a spot though... she gets pretty hectic out there sometimes. some of the worst offshore etiquette i have seen goes on out there. i think the rule out there is that if you cant cast your bait into the next boat you are too far away...

cheers, aaran.

They are a magic looking fish.

As everyone said - great effort and well done guys.

Shame you couldn't avoid the crowds on a Friday.

Always interesting to be dusted by some big stuff - a bit like nearly winning the lottery - next time . . . .

I usually throw another $80 at the fuel bill to get away from the crowds - not always a better place to fish but . . . "you can feel the tranquility"

Thanks for the report guys - great stuff!

From the DPI website:

Upcoming changes to the recreational bag limits on snapper have been announced. The recreational bag limit for snapper will be reduced from five to four, with a maximum of one fish with a total length over 70 cm allowed. The minimum size limit for snapper will remain at 35 cm. This will apply to all recreational anglers, including fishing from charter boats. These changes will come into effect from 1 September 2011.
