Hi all,

I have access to a good deal on a yamaha f225 however it has a 30 inch leg. Just wondering what would be involved in downsizing to a 25 inch?

Would hanging 270kg of motor on a jacking plate off a Haines transom be asking to much if it were the last option?

Cheers

Easy to do but you need to take it to an expert for this . I can point you in the right direction but you will need to be able to take the engine to Burleigh heads on the Gold Coast. Most will want to change the drive shaft I have a buisness that I use to do this they cut and shorten the driveshaft without removing it from the gearbox.. making the job ever so much cheaper.. probly the cost of a new driveshaft all up :)

PM me if you want the buisness details of the guys that do this.

Ah thank you so much. Will pm you :)

As a matter of interest, what would I be looking at for the driveshaft from yamaha? Cheers

Hey mate, I know it's a long shot, but would a shaft from a 1993 yamaha 200hp be interchangeable? Just that I have a new leg on the motor which had the power head throw a piston.

Thanks mate

i doubt it ,the 4 strokes will have a different spline, davco in demand ave arundal will cut and shut the shafts ,no need to remove from the gear box, shift shaft will need to be done ,just cut the water tube.
im not sure if the 30 inch has a spacer kit between the leg and gear box ,hopefully it does and you will just need to change studs over ,should be able to do the job for under 500 dollars

Thanks mate. Yeah it has the spacer problem is I live in GlAdstone so trying ringing somewhere up here is a little difficult without changing parts. May have to go for a drive :)

just freight the gear box and shift shaft to davco, and get the studs from your yamaha dealer

If in Gladstone see Browny @ Curtis Coast Marine he converted my mates 300 Suzuki in Yeppoon to a 35" shaft by welding the shaft & putting an extension in

Personally I would fit a suitably rated major manufacturer jacking plate like bobs machine shop and get the cowl nice and high out of the water.

Seeing that you've got a nice strong transom the jacking plate idea should work well. Is there an alloy boat builder nearby that you can visit about getting something made up.
