Went for a fish yesterday in the haines with a couple of mates out off of Mooloolaba and found the weather fantastic but the fishing really tough. Must of been a heap of sickies or RDO's Monday as the ramp was full.
We headed out to Outer Neerings first but no good, then over to Murphies were we pulled up on a spot and in a couple of minutes there was a 15 - 20 kg Hoo at the back of the boat just checking us out. We tried to bait him but he was to wise to take a bait!! I think he would of spolled us pretty quick anyway.;D
After he left we were supprised to see a big shape under the boat and as it rolled realised it was a big dolfin, I think I've seen him out there before at McCawly's but the crew were happy to see him. The dolphin was a smart bugger because as we let the small one's go back in he would snap them up. So we left there and headed up to Coolum for a run as we had a mark to have a look at but it was barren no fish. Into Arkwright shoal next still no fish then back to the old faithful inner neerings for a dusk bash. We caught the biggest green toad fish I've ever seen there. They were eating our snapper leads and rigs. When they took the bait they felt like good fish but when you got them up it was a real disappointment. We got a couple of hussar and a nice painted sweetlip but no much really. There were heaps of boats out it would be interesting to see how they all went.
I think the Northerly and the outgoing tide were a big factor to our poor results but we had a crack.;D
