Hi all,
Headed out off Tweed Sat morning Chasing Snapper and Cobia. First stop Snapper rock bait ground.. Got some Yellow tail, Pike and got some Bonito.... Off to the in shore reefs out from Fingal.. We cubed up some pilly's and threw a hand full over every 10 mim..( stinky Buggers :P) We strip bait a bonitos and got s%^t loads of Spices Red Rock Cod:-?, Brim and other small Spices, we where petty busy pulling up small fish every 5 min... But boring... So out went a live Pike and a dead Bonito on the 24kg rigs 8-)..... 8 min later ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ whamo the 24kg Ian Miller T-curv rod Buckles over. a Short fight up comes a Cobia around 12kg mark :D (pic Below).
Now is time for another Big bait.. 2nd Bonito goes on single hook through the tail.. 30 min later F&%kn Band the rod buckles over again but this time there is smoke coming off the reel (not really but it was flying out).. Picked it up again and turned the drag up..... tightened the drag up some more....and again... Well holy smoke we have a good fish here ;D;D .... After 5min the other rod goes off :o, same again its big what ever it is....
After another 10 min i see my fish, Its a massive Cobia::) and i mean massive... BANG, lost it to an 100lb snap swivel straightening ( I still had the Drag too tight, my fault). Any way we managed to get the second Cobia into the boat, This thing is massive... One fillet weighed 14.8kg :o estimated 45KG fish, the last 2 pic's shows the size of the monster... oh and it eats soooo good...... Happy Days;D;D;D

Cheers Bigdonk

Top stuff BD!

That thing would have pulled you inside out! Great chewing too :)

Conditions look atrocious in that third pic.

Two weeks of great conditions and my holidays start this Friday, about the same time as the southeasterly change :(

A great fish mate and at that size they sure would give you a workout. They have to be one of the most stubborn bloody fish on the planet but boy do they taste good. Well done.

mate I'm a contract fish filleter for a living and if one fillet weighed 14.8 kg...times that by 2 and you get 29.6kg...
even if you only got a 50% recovery from that fish...and I know you get more than that from cobes....you can proudly stand up and claim that fish over 50kg....bloody good fish mate and well done.
TAKE A BOW!!!!
