This happened about 5 years ago ,thought id share it with you guys ,hope you enjoy it.
We found a nice drop off on the edge of the Darwin harbor near Mandora,it was to rough to go outside this day so i said to my old man what say we give that drop off near the Sub cable a bash.
So we followed the GPS to the mark ,it looked good steep drop off with a 3 mtr rise at the bottom ,no fish on the sounder,with in 30 mins there were 14 boats around us with in 50 mtr radious dirty big charter boats pulled up and dropped there Gigantic picks ,We gave em all a big wave and said gday ,is this a good spot lol .
Blokes in dinghys came out from Mandora this is a joke whats wrong with the rest of the harbour.wow this must be a good spot then 2 of the Arafura Blue charter boats that where heading outside made a sharp right turn and headed for us ,they to nosed there way in ,this is crap lol Nah its to lumpy outside and they recon we are on the fish
I baited up 2 8/0 and a 4oz doubled patonoster rig and a full squid on each . Pushing the leaver on my TLD 25 Letting my rig plummet to the bottom, bang as it crashed into the rock. Then twitching the lever so i had a tight spool. Then Slowly lifting the rod up and feeling the sinker go down and up again and down again the sinker went slack ,then i lifted and felt nothing hmmmm thats a good sign i thought .
I wound up the slack and waiting for the line to take up the slack waited a second or so then smash the TLD 25 WAS WAILING AS 50 pound braid fireline peeled from the spool ,hmm dad said you got a nice one there son ,yer bit of weight think its a Jewy the way he sucked my bait on the drop.Take it easy on him son let your drag do the the work ,yes dad .
After my freight train decided to take a breather,I got a few winds back then away he went again ,hmmmm good fish dad said.After about 45 mins or so i said we got colour well its big and what is it 2 shapes appeared ,look at the size of that jew dad said ,I said better than that dad its 2 big jew 18Kg each i recon as they slowly floated to the surface .Wow a double header jewy havent heard of that before.
As i started to wind in to get the fish closer to the boat my line started to spool of the reel i thought this is strange,this fish are belly up and look almost dead ,there airbags hanging out there mouths.What the then the fish started to fade into the depths. Dad is in raptures by now get those xxxxxxxxxx fish in the boat.
I said i cant the line is being pulled by something there was a boat infront of us about 20mtrs ,i kept feeding line out then the line went slack i realled in my line to find no fish just 2 bare hooks.Then boat that was there started drifting away from us , my line with the fish on must have pulled there anchor and those mungrolls claimed my fish ,i caught a double jewy but it was gone. :-[
