gidday all,

took advantage of the conditions today along with the other few hundred boats out from mooloolaba and headed out to murphy's reef. this was our first trip out in the tinnie so we found some ground and threw the anchor.

started bottom bashing and got picked to death so i threw out a floater and started pulling the squire/snapper in. pulled a couple squire in the mid 40's then not long after my rod is bent over and line is peeling. my mate calls it for maybe a mac but i could feel the head shakes and called it for a big snapper. there were a pod of dolphins hanging around so i locked the drag up a bit and got her up as quick as i could. she went 82cm's and just over 6kg. my pb snapper, stoked!

not long after, zzzzzzzzzzzz my reel starts screaming again. more line is taken this time and im thinkin this might reach the 90's as it pulled alot harder than the previous 82cm. but got it in the boat and measured at 78cm. was hoping for another pb but still happy.

i pulled the hooks on another couple big fish and was bitten off once aswell. my mate didnt catch a thing unfortunately but maybe its his turn next time...

all the action was in the space of an hour and they completely went off the chew just before dark. we had 2 boats anchor up right beside us after i caught the first big one but we didnt see them catch anything while we were there. thats karma for not finding their own spot to fish. pretty safe to say ill be back out after work during the week trying to upgrade that pb!

cheers, aaran.

Good job Aaran,

Though I've never connected to a decent snap I'm sure happy to know they still exist.

Really appreciate the thread - that karma works in the positive direction too mate.

Cheers,

Steve

cheers fellas,

we were thinkin bout headin out to 12 mile but thought we might have been biting off more than we could chew in the tinnie. was just a matter of right spot right time i think. we didnt burley or anything and there were 5 or 6 other boats near us. didnt see many other fish caught. like i said it was our first time out there so maybe beginners luck?

cheers, aaran.

That beginners luck is great. Hope you get it again and again. They don't get much better than that and it's nice to see you just caught a few and went home.
Nice to see the drop ins do poorly.
I'm all for finding your own spots to just fish quietly.

Cheers
Chris

Nice fish for close in mate. Just goes to show you don't have to do 50 to 60 klm to still get good fish. We got most of our fish last weekend at the 12 mile after doing some 120klm for the day.
