Hello, so I understand that to install a Merc Vengeance (13 1/8 x 16p for argunments sake) onto a honda I need to use some special hub kit.
Does anyone know what the actual difference in the hubkit is? I have a solas alu. prop on the honda at the moment, can I use parts of its hub kit (spacers. nut?) in place of this merc hub kit?

My motor is a 2006 honda 90 if that makes a difference

I'm a bit lost with this whole swapping props between brands, etc.

If i have this right Solas use a different style of hub kit for there props, both Honda and Merc use the same hub kit when fitting a solas prop known as a MD Kit.

I am thinking if its a genuine Mecr prop you want to fit then you will require one of Mercs Flo Torq kits.

Quicksilver number
P-835279Q2

Honda outboards 75 - 90 HP 1999 and Newer and 115 - 130 HP

I see, yes you could well be 100% correct, now that i look my solas prop has a pressed in rubber hub where as the merc prop appears to have some crazy removable thing there.

Thanks for the prompt reply

So I guess just for interests sake then what is the exact difference between the '835257K1' mercury flow torq hub kit and the '835279Q2' honda one? is the spacing different or just the fact it uses a cotter pin instead of a tab washer?

Hey SF

I am almost certain you will find the Merc branded one and the Quicksilver branded one use different part numbers.

The thrust washers are different... the merc one sits too far into the gearcase on the Honda allowing the prop to rub on the gearcase bearing carrier.

If you have time E of Bays has them cheaper than a dealer

cool thanks for that Spaniard_King, that was the info i was after.
I guess I was wondering if the solas 'MD kit' thrust washer could be used with the Flo Torq II hub kit. they look the same.

Was just trying to get a stainless prop on my boat for this weekend, but as per usual in Darwin no one has anything in stock - even when yuo're prepared to drop significant coin.

What're your thoughts on how a merc vengeance 13 1/8 x 16p would perform on my Honda 90 compared to say a Solas Stella 13 1/4 x 17p?
I updated my thread here http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php?t=165632&page=2 with latest data on how its running with a 17p alu. prop now.

when I finally get my motors at the 100% right height, and adjust everything I need to, Merc props will be going on my Suzukis!, merc make some very good props at a good price. (in my opinion)

I think the 16 would be a good match given the performance of the 17 Ally and solas 15

Did you loose mutch on acceleration from the 15 to 17

With a light load ie, 100L fuel. 2 people, stuff all gear (99% of my fishing is done like this) there is no noticeable reduction in accel.
Once loaded up with another person, big esky and 160L of fuel it definitely takes longer to plane than with the 15p prop.

The options from what I can see are,
16p Merc Vengeance ($800+ including honda hub kit???! )
17p Stilletto Advantage ($600 inc hubkit)
17p Solas Stella ($650)

Not sure if those 17p ones might make me a bit over propped tho? but I dont want to go backwards with my WOT speed (now 65kmhr) so dont want to go back to a 15p staino one

From what I've read over the past couple of days the merc props seem to be the best, Stilettos seem to have a good following.
Some people say that the solas stellas aren't very good quality?
