After the boat sitting for 6 months,i decided to give her a big clean up and a once over before the winter fishing season. Cleaned up a treat and engine fired up straight away with no problems. New fuel, good water flow, everything looked sweet. Took her for a run just out to the mouth of Caboolture River to blow the bugs out. Engine run like a clock no problem at all, except for an annoying sqeak that starts at around 1000rpm. Checked all the silly things like, loose cowl, flywheel rubbing, sqeak from something inside boat ect. The sqeak gets faster when the engines revs are picked up in neutral.Engine is a 60hp 1999 Mariner, operation was perfect other than this. Any ideas? Thanks Troy.

At a guess the rubber around the cowl is dry!!!!
Armour all will fix, or Vas, silicone spray, Lanoguard anything wet and slippery that will soak in to the rubber seal.

Cheers.

I guess the only way to find the squeak is to run the motor with the cowl off and have someone listen and try to locate the source.

If you get a long handle screw driver place the blade on any metal part and then place your ear on the handle this acts like a doctors stethoscope and you would be surprised what you can hear. Anyway move it around safely to find any offending parts, bearings ETC.

Cheers.
