Headed out from the Boyne with a mate early on Labour day. Weather was perfect with near glassed out conditions all day.

Didn't go to wide, thought we'd try a few marks in around 30 to 35 metres.

Dropped down a bait jig to get a few live baits to try an entice a few good fish.

Down with the livies & it wasn't too long before we had a few good fish in the esky.

Back down with the bait jig, and felt a few livies on, when whack, nice fish on. Thought i'd take it real easy, knowing I only had a bait with light hooks.

Couldn't believe it that I actually managed to keep this fish on, and into the boat.

Well the pictures tell the story, stoked.

Cheers Gazza

Good one Gazza. Did you get any other fish to go with that one??? I thought they may still be a few nice grassies around in the same area.

Gary - nice one. Pity you cant make the 1770 trip in July. You could have taught me the red-on-jig technique. See you in August for Swains trip.

Thanks guys, yes the Red was a keeper 73cm. It's in the freezer waiting to be baked.

The bait jig used was a standard Surecatch brand about $3.00, not sure of the hook size (look about the size i use for bream hooks).

We got a few other fish, good grassies & parrot. Got a mackeral on the botom as well.

Greg, Hopefully you'll get a few good fish on your 1770 trip. I'll be down the late May. Looking forward to our Swains trip in August.

Cheers Gazza
