Fri arvo a mate took me out on his boat chasing Macks or anything else on the chew.
We went 2km SE of the Seaway (not sure what the reef is called)
Had 4 hits on livies (2 floating, and 2 down deep) but no hookups :(
At dark we switched to bottom fishing.
Both bagged out on small Trag in the mid 40cms ; I got 3 Tailor (also mid 40cms) and a few squire.
My mate hooked onto something large and feisty ... 20 minutes later and it was just under the boat ready to be gaffed when he lost it to a snapped in half Gama 6/0 circle hook :(
Could not get a good look at the fish in the light of the headlamp - but it was big and silver, so my guess was a big Jewie ... no way he would've stopped a Kingie or AJ on that light gear.
Despite there being no macks, we had fun anyway, and a pretty tasty breakfast to keep the family happy on Saturday ;D
no pics - you all know what trag & tailor look like by now ;)

Sounds like a good outing Rob, and yes the big one got away. Have to admit I go for mustard hooks these days for what happened to you is all too common - shame.

I hate losing fish to gear failure but good feed at least.
