Is anyone running shock absorbers on their rigs. I'm heading to Stanage Bay (100km of dirt) and was wondering if they are worth the effort to protect the trailer and boat. I would remove and store them after the trip

Cheers

Mate i've always wanted to set up all of my boat trailers with shockers........

Just can't figure out how to get a good bolt on shock mount sytem that would work........

The easier way would be to mount coil over leaves.....then you would'nt
have to remove them........not as good as a shock but it would definatly benfit the ride......Match a lighter spring to a coil and you'd have a good sturdy set up.

Can you buy anything like the old Armstrong lever shockies they had on a lot of English cars in the 40-60's??
They would be sooooo easy to mount to a boat trailer.
They are basically a box and a trailing arm.

I guess the biggest drawback would be rust, don't know of any shock absorbers that are galvanised or protected from corrosion in any way.

What about just fitting rebounder springs?

Or go for higher profile tyres or floatation tyres and run them at lower pressures to absorb the vibrations and shocks. Stanage ramp is a good angle and above half tide it takes a lot of beating. Launching with larger tyres will not be an issue there.
