Hi Guys, Have you any thoughts on the Johnson 125hp OMC outboard? My son is looking at one, and I was wondering what they are like ie performance and parts availability wise. Would appreciate your comments,
Thanks Rod

Be sure he gives it a good going over ie spark and compression. Not entirely sure if that model had the typical reg/rectifier that always seems to shite itself.Corrosion around the heads another biggy.

As for parts there like crunchydores and falcons, shouldn't have any problems getting bits and pieces.

almost all the old OMC carby engines are good, some sort of year model might help us give a bit more info though. Just do all the usual checks, as in, compression, gear oil and especially signs of bad corrosion if it is getting on in years.

They had em from 70S to at least late 80s right back to electric shift models.

The tilt trims are very expensive for all rmodels but for later ones you can at least find ones in OK condition.

With a older motors unless you are hands on mechanically minded sort of fellow it can be a very expensive hobby getting mechanics to do the work if you can find a interested mechanic.

They are a simple motor but like with any older stuff maintainance is king.

Very few have ever died from being worn out.

Not sure where you are but get it checked out by someone who know and can tell if it has had head gaskes lifted and checked and galleries clear.

Unless it is a well maintained motor don't place a lot of value on it and if you get some time out of it without costing you heaps good and if not look at repower options
