Not having caught that many Trout before (because, as so kindly pointed out previously, I can't fish), and never having seen a Chinaman in person, can someone please ID this fish?

I'm no expert (as so many agree, including me), and I'd really like a crash course on Chinaman in this context, even if all it does is save Fishandchips from a bad end.

Cheers,

Tim

Def a trout - not a chinaman. Chinaman are a lutjanid, trout are serranids.

It kinda looks like a big blue spot with the stripes/saddles.

Awesome fish tho, well done

Thanks guys, I know it looked that way, but the upright bars had me going. I wasn't sure, and just wanted it clarified before we all had a funeral to attend!

Stonker fish by the way!

Cheers,

Tim

Beautiful trout mate, and I see where Timi is thinking Chinaman- the markings on that fish are very similar. No doubting the shape but.
I gotta ask did you keep him?
I havent caught a trout bigger than about 5kg and have often thought Id have a delima deciding what to do with one that size as they are definitely getting into the high risk catagory for Ciguatera. Actually had a mate get a good dose from a 4kg model about a year ago and now cant touch the stuff- crying bloody shame.
Top way to start the day but.

Great trout. It's not a bluespot - they have dark pec fins.
