I hadn't used the boat for 3 months mainly due to a serious illness in the family and then an unplanned OS trip although I ran the motor regularily. Somehow water was sitting in the bottom of the cowl. That will require some investigation as to how it got there, maybe because I usually take the cowl off first and look after the motor before washing the boat and motor later and water has entered during the washing stage. Anyhow the end result was a jammed gear shift rod. With a lot of effort I managed to free it up but it is still a little stiff.

Question is should the engine housing self drain as I can't see where it would drain from, and as my memory is quite bad I can't remeber whether the gear shift rod comes out when the leg is removed as this would facilitate a proper cleanup of the rod.

The motor is a 1991 150hp Merc.
