had a late start this morning as i had to pick my youngfella up at caboolture so decided to tow the boat to maloolaba for a spanner crab trip..had the boat in the water around 9 and headed out to a mark for spanners the leathal098 give me a few months ago to try...cheers for the spot mate as they are on up there..on the way we spotted some bird activity so had a look..i threw a small chrome slug and was on straight away..i boated a nice little mactuna had another few casts for another 2 macs...got to the spanner mark and droped 8 spanner dillies in..by the time we droped the last dillie the 1st 1 had been in for around 30minutes ...we went straight back to 1st dillie and pulled it we got 6 keeper spanners and a few throw backs..i had a feeling we would get enough for a feed so we didn't drop it back..we did the rest of the dillies for a total of 40 spanners out baglimit...8 dillies 40 keepers not bad considering 2 dillies had no crabs just legs caught in the net...guess the turtles had a good feed...was a great day out.on the way home i had another few casts a few schools of fish bustin up got another mactuna..kept all the mactuna for bait
once again thanks lee for the starting marks for where to crab and like i said they are on up there..used half a mullet for bait in each dillie..

oh and the dillies i used where not witches hat dillies they where propper spanner crab dillies

cheers rosco

Hi Rosco, what do spanner crabs taste like (don't say like chicken), anything like a sand/blue swimmer crab

i think they are a similar to a sandie but maybe a little sweeter..they still go down well with a beer.lol

As Roscoe1974 says, they are sweeter than blueswimmer but have lots of shell cavaties in the body. I caught a few in the past , in our catch there were a few sea turtles that like these also.

After a 6 hour soak for us.

Will be going again since the closure is open again.
