ha so ive been sold a motor that is 09 on a 08/10 plated boat and the dealer is trying to tell me that its a 2010 model motor. i had a warranty issue an took it to a closer dealer who informed me that its a 09 model... AND I PAID FULL 2010 MODEL PRICE!!!

OUCH!! I'd be going back to where I bought it and discuss sternly with the sales manager. I wouldn't hold much hope of getting some sort of refund unless you have paperwork that indicates it is a 2010 model.

yep check your paperwork, if it has 2010 model in writing, you are either entitled to some sort of cash rebate, or for them to fit a 2010 built unit. If no joy, don't mess around go straight to consumer affairs. my sister in law is currently going through it with a car, was sold a demo model as brand new, Consumer affiars have ruled that she can either take it back and get a brand new car like she paid for or get a refund of 3 grand

most new motors these days do not have a date of manufacture as such, and the warranty does start (as does the motor's true age" the day you buy it, now I know, a 2009 plated car/boat/motor/whatever is a 2009 model, regardless of when you buy it, but makes like Yamaha and few others no longer have a manufacture date to cover old stock and over production and so on. Mercury and OMC and others tried to cover up year models by having the date in code, but of course, the code was soon common knowledge.

yeah i got stung. dept fair trading say i have a case because he has sold a 09 motor on a 10 boat, but to be honest i dont think its worth the stress anymore. i want to sell the motor and now i cant sell it as a 10 model because it states otherwise.. so i have already lost money just by taking it. its my own fault for not looking when i picked it up... LET THIS BE A LESSON TO ALL!! LOL

Just like the Holden ads selling 2010 models for $1000 less than 2011 models, I think cars depreciate more than $1000 a year regardless of Km's. If you traded the car it wouldn't matter how many K's or when it was first registered its whats on the build plate that matters. Sorry to hear you got stitched up mate, personally I'd be pursuing it, even if you get $500 back at least its something.

if its stamped 09 on the motor that would be the build date in the states but it would be classed as a 2010 model engine its the same with all new cars as such.

If your "2010" motor is in fact stale.....you will probably find most others will be too.

Outboard motors dont change in actual build or look anywhere near as often as cars do......so as long as the model has not changed significantly...you probaly have far less of a problem than if it was a car.

Most people are going to be more concerned with the hours and the actual condition.

And from what I hear, good low hours ouboards sell pretty well.

The biggest impediment is going to be that it is an ETEC;D
