Alone in a boat at sea with no life vest on all the time is suicidal, he very lucky young man.
A lesson to all can be gained from this

WEAR A LIFE VEST AT ALL TIMES WHEN ALONE

I wear the stormy seas self blow up one, you do not realise you are wearing it.

15 years ago I would have made it to shore too, no doubt about it on my part here but today with my extra age, i just dunno.

regardless it's a fine heads up for all those who boat alone, even to the point of having a quality mobile vhf attached to ones clothing.

I often boat alone - and sometimes a long way from shore. I wear a stormy sea and have a hand held EPIRB in the pocket just in case.

I don't think anyone would find me without the EPIRB if I fell out of a moving boat 40km out to see by myself mid week and bugger all boats around.

And yes i log on with VMR but it's a long time before they's start searching.

He is one very lucky young man, well done on a massive effort swimming home from the nine mile.

Another wake up call, I need to review my offshore safety procedures.

Cheers,

Matt
