hey crew, with alot of e-tecs out there now im guessing there is alot out there with a heap of hours on them. I was wondering if there are any e-tec owners out there that have traded in there old one and forked out hard earned on another one or went with another brand of outboard.

I personally know 2 dealers who simply wont accept them as trades at all.

I traded in my 150hp on a 200hp, no other dealer other than an etec dealer would give me more than $2500 for the 2 year old etec with 200hrs on it that I had had since brand new in 2007. Got $13000 for it on the trade in. Next motor will most likely be a suzuki or yamy 4 stroke, don't know why just like the quieter motors, and am really happy with my 60 yamy 4stroke on my tiny. Kev.

Key things to making etecs last.

1) Do not let them go 300 hours between services, they cannot.
2) Don't let monkey's work on them, this is difficult.
3) Don't over tighten cowl bolts.
4) Any sign of water in gearbox, strip and fix problem.
5) Don't ever let them suck in water or bad fuel.

Performance wise, great. Quite and still have 2 stroke grunt.

I went up from an Etec40 tiller to an Etec 115. Still love it.

Havent used it in a while but itll go first time, no clouds of two stroke smoke, no fuss, just good two stroke grunt.

370hrs on my 250 E-tec, replaced 2 injectors at 19hrs... Runs perfect, it went to 285hrs for its first service, it has had salt water ingested into the fuel tank and through the fuel lines at sea, (I forgot to put the fuel cap back on). Yet the motor kept going, even though it was running rough..

I get 1.7km to 1ltr on flat water, 1.3-1.4km to 1ltr when running onto a short sharp swell...

Yes, I would buy another E-tec..

I had an etec 115; now I have the yammy 100. I found the etec chewed through too much oil (more so when pushed), and at the $80 for 4litres, this would have made up for the cost of the extra services for the yamaha.

Got a 90etec, get between 600-800kms out of a gallon of oil so not too bad but fuel consumption is great, best I did was 214kms from a 100l tank on a calm day. We ran out of fuel about 200m from the ramp. Would I buy another one? Definetly!
