Painting a tinnie

I'm thinking of painting my 20+ year old tinnie myself just to tart it up a bit. Not looking for expensive paints and am wondering if I have to sand it to take the dull oxide coating that ally gets before I prime it.
Any recomendations welcome.

Mate get your self some ct12 cleaner and some red coloured scour pads and some gloves and rub away.this will clean it and key it up for some primer.You'll need an acid based primer so it will hold on good.The acid based primer won't eat your boat away it 's just what it's called.I've been in the smash repair business game for a while and had to fix some back yard dramas over the years and that is the way i painted my tinnie and paint never had corrosion under the it.Remember you get what you pay for in paint products.;) good luck with it.
