morning guys,
can some of you maybe give me an idea of what size sea anchors you use on a 6 meter plate boat for drift fishing?
The various manufacturers size recommendations vary from 500 dia to 1250 dia.
The larger of those would have roughly 4 times the holding of the smaller so have a huge variation.

cheers!

A fisherman 4 para anchor will get you by, but the fisherman 7 will do the trick.

As big as you can afford. I made the mistake of buying one that the manufactures recommended for my size craft (5m tinnie). I was not happy so went double in size and it works great. mojo

I have a 5.3 boat

and the para 4 does quite well. could use a para 7 no problems, but the 4 is ok

you can pick up sea anchores on ebay at a realy good price, i wouldnt go as far to say there as good as the para's but they work great at a fraction of the cost, ive been using 1 now for about 12 months with no problems and it slows the drift down plenty enough to keep you on the bottom. i agree go the biggest you can afford. if price isnt a concern i would go the para 4 sure.

if you get 1 from ebay i would highly recomend you put a float on the tail end.
1. it will hold it in a better upright position.
2. if your knot does come undone you wont loose it (this happend to me when i wasnt watching and lucky i had a float on it. tracked it back on the gps a few hundred mtrs ::) ).

thanks Jas-looking at the Oceansouth ones on Ebay, look fairly well made, $50 and 1.25 M diameter which seems quite large compared to some. Full webbing.

Buy the genuine para anchor straight from the manufacturer

For a 625 cruisecraft we use the fisherman 9, works great!! Vertico Uses a fisherman 7 for his 5.3m side consol with no roof and it works well for that boat but for a cab boat i would go bigger, depends how slow you want to drift i guess...

thats the one, $39.90 plus $10 freight.

Spot82-the para anchors look great but a bit too finicky and expensive for what Im using it for.
Ive used those before on the big vessels Ive operated and for me its an overkill.

Kdog-who's ripping who off?

Mate, I apologize for the rant, this has nothing to do with your post,it is to do with the floods etc.I am just so angry that there are people out there that can do this sort of thing. once again mate, I am sorry for the confusion.

No probs Kdog, I understand your situation, but who is ripping people off over your way? Besides reporters prodding for a reaction to put up on the news!

I have the "Para anchor Fisherman 7" for my 575 outsider and I believe FrankOO uses the same for his 685. Pay the little bit extra to get 1 as you will soon forget the price when you see how well they work.
