Didn't get a manual with this outboard, but recent street talk has led me to beleive that running to much oil can be bad. Currently running it at 50:1 and wondering if their should actually be less oil.

My 94 15 hp johnno requires 100:1 ,just checked the owners manual and it covers 9.9 hp and 15hp . It states 50:1 is required for break in period .

Daves sounds about right-but you wont do any harm running 50;1 except plugs oiling up.

Give Downes marine a call. They have been very helpful over the phone when I have talked to them. Jonno specialists.

50:1 if you want it to last.. 100:1 if you want less smoke and less reliability :P

Gotta laugh at the 2 stroke owners worried about smoke... :-X

If you are going to do lots of slow trolling back the oil off to 75:1, but for normal running around run 50:1.

Cheers gents, no slow trolling for this one. ITs a sail power version, high thrust for the sailing boat. Only gets used to push the boat in and out of the creek, and is usually running half to full throttle.

I pulled out the charger cables today cause they were all corroded. Genuine OMC part (even OMC branded wire) and its not tinned, soldred and totally shagged. Wire was black, all soldered joints had gone dry (and people wonder why I hate solder).
