One of our sons has bought a place near Cooyar (Qld) - where would be the closest freshwater creek I could throw a line in?
What might I expect to catch?

The Cooyar Creek flows through town and it has Platypus in it.

Any clues appreciated
Thanks

Cooyar creek itself could be a possibility!!

From there you could head towards Kilcoy and go to Somerset dam.

Emu creek that flows through Benarkin State Forest is also a possibilty.

Have a browse with google maps.

Hi IRM,

Luke is right mate, cooyar creek has some goldens as well.
You can make contact with local property owners to fish some nice stretches heading through the back track to Ted Pukallas weir etc. (Between Blackbutt & Yarraman).

Emu creek between Cooyar & Crown Nest (Back way dirt section) is also fishable or down past Blackbutt, Benarkin way which then takes you down the range to the heads of the Brissy river way. Onto Kilcoy then Somerset etc.

You can skip through from Cooyar to BP Dam. The run should be 1.5 hrs ish.
From Cooyar to Cressbrook Dam should be about the same travel time mate.

The local pub will give you info on property owners or nice stretches of river etc.
Heading West from the pub the Duncombes used to own several thousand acres with the Creek running through their property etc.

It's a good little river to explore on a Canoe mate.
Have fun.

Cheers Lyndon.
