A friend has just bought a 640 I have heard that there are issues with the width and towing is this correct if so what is required to tow these rigs within the law.

They are about 2.53mtrs in width. Unless the copper or RTA are in a bad mood very unlikley to be pulled over. Check with state laws but i think all you need is a permit which lasts a year to tow and there may be some restrictions to towing after dark.

Depends on what State you are in.
In Qld max width is 2.5mtrs... after that permits apply for wide loads.

yeah depends on the state but basically sign 1200x450 front and rear, lowbeam on, and flags 450 sq on 4 extremities, and carry permit ($50 3 years) and handbook in the cab of vehicle.

Problem is that while you'd be unlucky to get pulled over, in an accident first thing they do is put a tape over it.

Also Im told there are no warnings in WA, $400 for each non-compliance.

as they are a WA boat.....Why would they build a boat that doesnt comply with local laws? just doesnt make sense to me.

Yep I have wondered that for a while and also asked the same question previously, but nobody seems to know. Makes absolutely no sense to me why an Aussie builder would want to make their boats overwidth.

No wonder they went out of business for a while with ideas like that!

Who knows....
But they still build a tough solid rig though. What you see is what you get.

I think they are 2.55 mts wide .
In NSW you need a permit to tow it and they are very restrictive as to roads you can use and days/time you can tow it.
You will find most coastal highways are off limits on weekends as well as lots of Sydney roads at times.
Contact the RTA and they will tell you what you need .

dunno about NSW but in most states its the Main Roads Dept that handles it not RTA.
