Take it to a VMR or Coast Guard or other rescue mob.

VMR/Coastguard are not authorised to accept them. Take them to your nearest Battery World

You can do it yourself. Cut the plastic casing open. Cut the power leads and break the little electronic card in half. That will totally dissable the epirb and ensure it cant be mistakenly activated.

Aircraft flying over will still pick up the old epirbs if activated

Aircraft still pick up the new ones too. 406 still transmit a signal on the 121 frequency.

Undo the screws, remove the battery, hit EPIRB with hammer & bin it.

On the amsa website there is the instructions to safely diable them for all different brands.

The batteries can be explosive / red hot so don't mess with them especially don't use them for anything else as they are designed for very slow discharge and will explode at a high discharge rate

Fire for those batteries- hell I wouldn't be standing within a km of that if you knew what they are made of. The hint is they are registered as a dangerous good for transport and not allowed on planes - road only

Disable it and drop it and the batery in for recycling.
