rail mount rod holders

what is the very best brand of rail mounted rod holder?

I need to fit rod holders to 1" diameter horizontal tubes in my targa frame.

I only have 6 rod holders over the rocket launcher, and this has not been enough. I want to get some high quality rail mount rod holders to hold my tag poles and extra rods etc, but there is a lot of crap around in the bolt on rail mount rod holder market

Scotty is a good brand as is Ram, they both have a huge range with lots of options

Smith, Taco, Rupp etc. from the US are the best but the cheap $39 ones from Witworths are fine if you tack weld the tube to the base.

What needs welding Rob? I don't get it?

If you do four tack welds where I have drawn in grey they should be ok for you. Pros use these and also the Sailmaster SS ones. While the Aussie dollar is good you could check out the US brands. Sean had Tacos or something on his Stabi if you remember.

I had CE Smith ones on the last boat. Just be aware of the metric v imperial when you order from US. May need to put rubber or similar to firm clamp up on rail.

Not originally designed for rail mounts but if you want strength plus fully adjustables check out Cisco, Cannon and Craigs, all out of the U.S and you wont find them here. Not cheap but i think all do rail mount versions.
Smiths and the 360 deg adjustable Cannon probably my choice if not on a budget. Most good ones designed to fit 7/8ths and 1 inch tubing only off the rack.

I got the cast aluminium ones from platnium ( bcf) for $27 or so

i also have the cast ones from bcf do the job well an easy to fit.

I had the ones from Whitworths on the AMM. They were brilliant, though i made sure to put loctite on the internal screw.

I never tested them with a wahoo or sail, but they got hammered by a few decent spaniards.

Look on ebay, there is a guy from the Gold Coast that makes good 316s/s ones and they are cheap.
