Ok, the dates are set so mark your calendars for this event. 19th. 20th and 21st of August 2011. Calcutta and sign on will be on the Thursday night 18th.
This is just the initial thread and full comp one will go up when I have finalised all the prizes, rules and classes etc.

This is an offshore event and only includes pelagics as point scoring fish. The bottom cops enough I reckon. It is tag and release.
If all goes well, and it will, each boat will be given a brag mat and a digital camera to measure and record their catch.

Larger species EG Marlin and Sails will just be a simple tag and release. Pics will be nice though...;)

ALL monies raised by this even will be split between, ECOFISH QLD, VMR Gladstone and Round Hill Marine Rescue. To say Josie down there at Agnes is happy to get some help would be a gross understatement.

Prizes WILL include at this stage, rather hefty vouchers for fuel, tackle etc. Esky's, fridges and the like.

Other main sponsor at this stage is Australian Pressure Testing Services. It looks like one of the new Gas conglomerates is going to hop on board too.

ALL my local media outlets have put their hands up to help and thats great.

Feel free to make any comments and suggestions on here.
I will listen to everyone although cant promise to be able to change anything.
Dates are set too..... They cant be changed.

The classes will include but not be limited to
6.5mtr and under and over 6.5 mtr boats.
Junior, female, male and overall angler categories. Plus team and boat categories.

A quick rundown on Gladstone for you.
Gladstone is an area surrounded in reef, islands, shoals and channels, not to mention a massive Harbour and is very productive for fishing.
Except for a cyclone, you can pretty much fish Gladstone somewhere in all weather.
One troll through the harbour can and will produce Mackerel and Tuna amongst other pelagic species.

Offshore, out the front of Facing and Curtis islands will produce all species of fish such as Mackerel, Tuna, Sailfish, Black Marlin, Yellowtail King, Amberjack, Black King and if you want to venture further out you will encounter Yellowtail Tuna and Blue Marlin. Forgive me if I missed any species.;D

Thanks Newby, looks like your getting it sorted and I hope the weather holds and the comp realises it's potential.

I do believe some ECOfisher members may be drafted into organisational and administrative duties ???? ::) ;)

Suggestion:-

Can you provide info on accommodation options there ? Of course folks can google this, but a recommendation from a local would be of assistance. Access to parking of boats is what I had in mind, and motels just do not cut the mustard....:-?

Cheers LP.

Hi newby
just a thought for you. We work closely with our marina at rosyln bay and get a number of berths allocated to the tight lines for competors to rent for the comp at a discounted rate. Uncertian if the marina at gladstone has the capacity to do this?

Mate, of course ECOFISH will be drafted for the usual labour requirements during the Tournament and probably the setup.
Weather will be fine mate. Its THAT time of year.;D
I will post a list of trailer boat friendly places to stay and I will open up the Motorworld secure car park as well. Wash down facilities available then too.

I am meeting with Leo, CEO the of the Ports Authority and Gladstone harbour in the next 2 weeks. They own the marina. We will sort something out I am sure. ;)

Just something that came up in another thread that I probably need to make clearer. This is a fishing comp. The nightly social aspect is not like the other comps as a lot of boats will be out deep and staying out.
As in other comps, some boats will raft up out wide. Hopefully there will be the barge for smaller boats accommodation, showers, meals and socialising too. More on that as it comes to hand.
But the "come in for nightly prizes and force fed product bashing" is not there.
Obviously, those who choose to come in every night may, or will get together and discuss the days fishing over a few ales or such.;D
