Lookin good Mick!

Yep, its coming along, slowly, but coming along. Bent up a template today for the backbraces, bending the backbrace tube soon.

the fun will be with the lock mechanism for deployment, and also the vertical latch to stow them when not in use. Its not mechanically complicated, just fiddly fabrication work, so I am lucky to have a good stainless fabricator doing work for me.

good set up mate, it will be nice to see how it all comes together and functions, it's very satisfying to be able to do things your self and benefit the end result.

Looking like a very neat job there TB !!

Any thought into a cut and chop the bowrail and return it
back into the rocket launcher staunchion ?.

keep em coming Regards Frank 8-)

the bow rail has to stay like that, as it provides stiffening to the targa frame. bit busy yes, but necessary to remain same. We have now used the bow / side rail to attach an anchor plate / pin for the vertical stowed position.

got a bit more done on my outriggers today

Just at the moment trying to work out how high to set the rigger tips off the water

Mick - how far back do the tips of the riggers go? Are they even with the transom (at least) for turning?

Keep them as high as you can but will allow you to run them in some good water just to the side of the boat wash at trolling speed. Next time you are out take note of the clear water to the sides. Width is no big deal, just focus on the clear water area and height.

yes, they are in line with the transom (just inside without halyard tension, but will be past the end of the transom loaded up)

thanks for the tip on the height vs clear water

cheers

Looking good and I like the hinge

Hope you have some large backing plates behind the mounts to take the stress of them of even consider a plate on the outside of the sternward mount to spread the load over more glass area.

Are you building a neat base in a good place to store the poles when trailering?

Hope they get you loads of fish.

the fibreglass is 10mm thick on the side there, and the backing plates are 80mm x 350 x 6mm behind everything, with loads of sikaflex. Nothing seems to be flexing when I heave on it.

I haven't got to thinking about where to store the poles during trailering. The top half of the pole slips inside the lower half, so they don't take up much space. At the moment they will probably just travel half in the cuddy cabin and laying on the floor wrapped in a towel

cheers

Hope they get you loads of fish.

they f'ing better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, I'd like them to, but the main thing for me was just to make a decent job of the whole thing.

10mm thick - the thing is a flippin tank. The builder must have known you were going to hang riggers off it.

I like seeing jobs with stuff well engineered and a bit of thought gone into it.

The only riggers we have ever broken have been due to bad storage and long distances on the road and where they were grabbed onto to get into the boat over the stern at a fuel stop. Snapped where they had wear as the towel hadn't stopped them rubbing. Didn't help that they were same colour as the hull. Have seen a couple where they have a clip at the stern cleat and run the tips forward on the deck to the anchor well in a canvas cover. They seemed to still bounce back straight.

On a fair few cat trailers they run PVC tube with a screw cap for trailering the riggers. Haven't seen them on a mono but that doesn't mean you couldn't come up with something. If not up in the cabin to the bait board like me.

Thats a great idea Smithy, with the tube

I'll have to think about this one, would hate to break a pole through some form of misadventure on the way to the boat ramp!
