So i've recently upgraded all of my gear and have left myself 2 rods that i still need to purchase/ build. I haven't built a rod before so i'm going to use a couple of my old rods to get my eye in by replacing a few guides but i've got no idea where to start when it comes to blanks. Here's what I'm after...

First one will be for a 1000 series Stradic Ci4. I see this being used with some 1 or 2 kg line to flick small plastics and hardbodies for bream, flattie and anything else that decides to have a chew. I'm after 1 piece 7- 7'6 nice and light. Going to use fuji sic guides (hopefully Ti frames) and a nice eva split butt with some small anodised red bits and red thread trims to finish it off.

Second up will be for a Stradic 8000 running 30 and 50lb tuffline. It will be used mainly off the Sunny Coast for chasing tuna, kings, mac and other summer predators with slugs and other casting lures. I'd also like to use it for a bit of jigging, pulling some big fingermark from structure up north as well as casting surface lures over some bombies. Again anything from 7 - 7'6 using standard Sic guides and a few gold trim bits. Before I decided to build myself I was looking at the T-Curve King Mac if that's any indication.

All suggestions very welcome on blanks, guide size and anything else you would like to point out. So far I'm looking at buying from http://mudhole.com (http://mudhole.com/) (purely due to the price) or http://therodworks.com.au (http://therodworks.com.au/) (local and probably cheaper on post) but I'm certainly open to suggestions on this as well.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Skippy, there is so much choice with blanks it is hard to give one recommendation. I use CTS blanks, USA Composites and Northforks for my builds.

I dont buy any blanks from oversea's, i'm too concerned they will get bumped/bruised in transit. (Australian distributors have them sent over in special packaging so limited risk as compared to a one off order) There is not a huge price difference in any case.

Half the fun of choosing a blank is the research into them.

Have fun and enjoy, regards Adam.
