Good afternoon gents, with the exchange rates being ok again, has anyone been importing any engine parts in from the USA, and if so who's the cheapest vendor to deal with for mercruiser genuine parts?

I want to keep an eye out for new set of risers (dry joint) and gaskets but from what i've found so far it's cheaper to buy the stuff from a mercruiser dealer here by the time the freight costs get added on :-? .

it is like all things alomg this line, sometimes it is well worth it, sometimes it is a complete waste of time, you need to weigh up all the pros and cons and see if the risk is worth it all.

Hi Paddles,

I imported a set of Stainless Props (F3) for my Penta earlier in the year from the States. Probably saved around $1500.

I had them put into the same box the bellows and risers.

Will be doing it next time as well

Go stainless made here in Australia if you are keeping the boat long term.

There is a fair few doing parallel imports

Try mastertech in the US, have been buying some parts off them lately. Easy to deal with. For heavy things the price is not so good but worth a look.

thanx guys, the freight is definitely the killer. a dry joint riser here is $430 and in the USA they're around the $300 mark but the freight was around $300 for a couple of risers and gaskets so sourcing them locally worked out cheaper. thanks for the stainless tip cormorant, the plan is to hang on to the boat for a while but the manifolds are perfect, it's just the risers that will need looking at again some time in the next 12 months, i'll check out those stainless ones anyway.

Try these guys or the remanufacturer up your way. The guys mentioned in my last post above do risers etc as well

These guys do a lot of stuff as wel. Might be worth the enquiry as they have a container a month or will know who will supply at a decent price
