A FORMER commercial fisherman caught in possession of more than 1348 kilograms of pink snapper over his licensed allowable quota was hit with $83,073.90 in fines and costs at Geraldton Magistrates Court.

What is interesting is the way the judge dealt with the guy by removing some of the of the owner of the lease Quota. Bet the owner of the license is going to take some money from him as well..

That is a blow to the would be illegal fishing game. Sad that it has taken three years for the outcome, albeit a good one.

Should he not also lose his boat and all his fishing gear.

That equates to 130 x 10 kilo fish or 260 x 5 kilo fish.
