View Full Version : Ideas for horizontal rod rack for tinnie?

I'm tired of rods laying on the floor for the trailer journey from home to ramp.

Get to the ramp and they always seem to get trodden underfoot by some goose. :-[

I want to set up some kind of horizontal rod rack that keeps the rods out of harm's way and also keeps the rods separated.

I would also like something that doesn't get in the way when the rods are in use.

What do others use?

My tinnie is 4.8M

Cheers, Ross.

Any room under your gunnels? These worked for me, bias sells them.

I have mine fixed to my bimini with those little bungee straps and buttons, I can carry 7 rods under my bimini, but it is pretty solid. Can send pics if you like.

What did you use to secure the racks to the boat?

Here you go mate, I needed something to accommodate 6 rods ... a rack from berkley and the like just don't work that well. I splashed out on these from Whitworths ... best thing I have found but not cheap $20 per pair. http://www.whitworths.com.au/main_itemdetail.asp?item=72110&search123=snapper&intAbsolutePage=1

bit rich when carrying 4 rods.
better of buying a rocket launcher, takes 5 rods

What did you use to secure the racks to the boat?

12 gauge SS screws, in my instance the rib is relativly square so the racks sit in place well.

Tell about it ... I bought six sets!!! I see it as $20 worth of cheap insurance for an expensive combo ... I won't be putting thin high carbon content rods in a rocket launcher. Also I have nowhere to mount a launcher so horizontal was the only way to go for me. Try fitting five 4000 sized combos in a Berkley 5 rod holder ... I'm pretty sure you will see more grinding than a valley strip joint.

Had exactly the same problem in my Savage Jabiru Pro 385.
After a lot of looking around, and some dud purchases, I was able to get some self adhesive holders from Barclays at Forster. Not sure of the brand, but these come as a 2 set, to hold 4 rods. They are fully flexible and simply stuck on to the side of the boat. I was able to cut them in half and have a 2 rod holder on either side of the boat.
Cannot think of the brand, but good boat places should have them, or know of them, Cost about $40 for the pair, but worth it as it has worked for me.
We have just moved and hence unpacking so would send some pics, but cannot at this time.

Hey Lantana and Sea Dog
I think the rod racks that Lantana is describing are the 'Nacsan Self Adhesive Rod Rack' which are made in New Zealand. . I've got one set and have found them to be really good, and want to buy some more and was searching when I found this old thread. Here's the link to them in NZ for anyone who's interested. I'm still trying to find a supplier here in Oz though, so if anyone knows where to get them, I'd appreciate the heads up.
