I am looking at a Yamaha 4hp 4ACMH and was just wondering if anyone has one and any reports on them both good and bad.
Looking to put it on a 10 ft tinnie for fresh water fishing dams and rivers only. No need for rego with a 4hp is another bonus.
Thanks in advance

You can go 5hp without rego can't you? A 5 is a good motor as a auxillary on a larger boat as well.

I haven't used that motor.

We use a 5 on a small tinny with the kids when younger and just put a throttle stop on it as it was too powerful for them and the boat. Check out their actual output as some were under rated and others are a detuned larger HP motor.

Load your tiny up and check it as the weights of some of the motors and the amount they handg out teh back was different between brands. Many boats I see on the inland waters are overloaded and unless they are smart if the weather turns to crap they are a danger.

Borrow someone elses 4 or 5 hp and see what it handles like. Our punt with 5 hp was a suicide machine .

They are very expensive for a small motor

There was a 5hp shoot out, tender motors in I think a brittish mag a few months ago but I can't find it online. Ha sto be a current 5hp review from summer in the states as ther is one every year.

Looks like 4hp is max

In Queensland, all recreational ships with an engine of more than 4hp are required to be registered when on the water.

Stupid that laws are different in different states. Better go check the ones in NSW haven't changed. God our governments are dumb.

If the 4hp can't get your tinny planing I would go the honda 2hp and have no maintainance other than oil changes as they are good little motors ( air cooled)

Little tohatsu are good in that size range as well.

Get the motor that makes the boat usefull as rego is cheap and less painful than a underpowered tinny.

Bear in mind that some dams are only allowing 4 stroke. Could be the norm in the future !

I was looking at the trading post yesterday and found a 2010 4hp Yamaha with 10 hrs on it and 18 months warranty left. I went and had a look at it and snapped it up then and there. Might as well be brand new and saved a wad of cash to boot.
