I am going through the process of possibly replacing my Formosa 550 centre cab with a 770 southwind. Boat and motro are both 2000 model with around 250 hrs on the outboard. I have been out in the boat a few times a couple of years ago and was impressed by the ride and performance of this rig. Boat has spent much of its life stored under cover hence the low hours. Has any members had any issues with the Yammys. Any feed back would be appreciated

I have a 2001 model Yamaha 150hp HPDI pushing a Cruisecraft 550 Outsider. The motor has about 400 hours on it. I have owned it for just over 13 months (60 hours of running) and have had no problems, motor runs pretty sweet. Before purchasing the rig I did a fair bit of research on the HPDI's, mainly on US boating sites. From memory the 150, 175 and 200hp HPDI's share a common engine block and have a pretty good reputation for reliability. However the US boating sites did contain a fair bit of info in regards to ongoing issues with the bigger block HPDI's. Suggest you do a search on the US site iboats on the 200hp HPDI.

Hope this helps a bit

Mate of mine has the 200hp HPDI, runs really well all be it a little thirsty at high revs, be careful with the water pump, when they overheat they do a lot of damage. Keep on top of that and all will be good.
