Can someone confirm that I have this correct with regards to the VHF radio license ?

I understand that I can go and do a course at the local VMR etc and my local offers one over a 5 week period, but the planets have not aligned for me to commit to this.

Can anyone offer feedback on the online course offered by http://www.vhfradioonline.com/ ?

It's about 50 bucks and I can do it online when it suites me.

After doing the course I need to organise an exam with an Invigilator. They charge a fee apparently ? As well as $56 for the exam marking processing etc.

Any thoughts or advise welcome ?

Hi - I did the course on line with ABC as you are looking at - the course content is very good and has quizzes at the end of each section with a large quiz that summarises the lot once you have undertaken all of the components.this quiz is a guide only as you still have to undertake the examination with an invigulator.

I needed a refresher course having not used a radio for years.....and not having any old documents.....I found that I practiced very hard as I had no idea what to really expect when examined

The test was undertaken at VMR Raby Bay and they were extremely helpful and professional with this

You do not get the practical experience doing the course this way but you soon get this when you are qualified to use the radio

If you are time poor or too distant to undertake the course I think this on line way is very good..........regards......Geeb

Where are you located? There is thread going at the moment with a one day course at Redcliffe Coast Guard.. They run a great day out nearly every month, with the next one on August 1st.

If you want to save yourself some money, but the handbook and 150 suggested Q&A's for $29.95 on : http://www.vhfradiocourse.com/VHF_Radio_Course_MROVCP.html

I know the bloke who runs this one and he has had plenty of experinece in getting the correct info out to students. Plus you get the book for everyone else to read and learn from for ever!!

You are right about the exam fee - that's for the govt...

If you do your test with a VMR or Coast Guard, most donot charge as they have invigilators as volunteer members. Invigilators can only charge out of pocket expences, not for labour.. donations to VMR or CG welcomed..

check this out as well: http://www.vhfradiocourse.com/Related_Links.html#Invigilator_Search

send me a PM if you want more info..
