Hi,

I'm trying to work out the age of a 60hp yamaha 2 stroke based on the serial number - I've looked all over the internet and found a bunch of different yamaha "standards" for serial numbers but none of them seem to match up.

The serial numbers are (I have twins) -

60FET 6H2 L 351691
60FET 6H2 L 351690

so I'm guessing the last 6 digits are just a unique ID and don't really contain any model info.

Does anyone have the secret decoder ring that can make sense of it?

thanks!

I have found an example that may help? Would not know if this is correct so suggest contacting your local Yamaha dealer whom I'm sure would help you out straight away. Anyway, here is an example that i found.

F15AEH = "F" four-stroke "15" engine power in HP, "A" is the model, "E" means an electric starter, "H" means that the engine is operated with the tiller "66m" is part of the serial number and can also be the engine "model code" .

"S" means standard shaft length (short shaft)
"201 380" is the rest of the serial number.
The letter "T" at the bottom of the corner is the model year / model code in this case 2000th

thanks! that one did the trick - the code for the year of manufacture is not actually part of the serial number.... it's a tiny little character stamped into the bottom right hand corner of the plate. Mine is a B so according to the chart it's either a 1992 or 2001.

I don't think they were still doing premix 2strokes in 2001 so I'd guess it's a 92?
