Caught by hook at the Banana Banks recently (No we were not chasing this species)

Can anyone tell me what it is. It was returned after pictures were taken to whence it came.

Did it have eyes? Fins? If not, perhaps some type of soft coral?? I would contact Qld Museum & email the pic. They should be able to ID it.

Did it regurjitate (spelling) the hook and was it disgusting with prickly stiff hair before it turned itself inside out?

could be a hairy mary, thats all I got, I sure wouldn't eat that thing or anything related .

Some form of Tunicate. google them IMHO they are quite interesting.

A quick google based on FNQ's suggestion of a Tunicate, leads me to believe it is a " Pleated sea Squirt"

I learnt long ago that ausfishers are not Dumb Pinhead. Just sometimes they are not as forth coming with te info we want. ie Spot X were they catch those snapper I don't seem to be able to find.

this hairy mary you guys refer to is it like a large caterpillar? my mate pulled in what looked like what i described last weekend (was all he pulled in poor bugger) was wondering what it was, if it is are the spines venomous?
