Just been told that on the way to work this afternoon, the wife spotted a rather large aluminium boat pulled up on the side of the road with what looked like 3 fisheries guys going over the boat and through the esky. Wonder if they received a tip off or something??? Will be interesting to see if there is anything in the papers over the next couple of days.

Mark,
I had a mate get searched by fisheries back at home in his driveway.
They followed him all the way from the boat ramp back to his house which was 35 min away.
Seems they suspected him of having something that he shouldn't have.
They found nothing and said "have a nice day".
Goes to show, anywhere, anytime is actually enforced.
Jason.

I don't know the exact boundaries, but I'm sure you're aware that the bag limit of fish includes the fish in your freezer too. I've never quite understood that rule, what if you've bought the fish from the seafood shop?

No boundaries, but I dare say they would only be interested in fresh catch or we'd all be in it very deep...

is that true if you have fish in your freezer that adds to your bag limit

Certainly does. it's an in possession limit. What's in your freezer counts as in your possession

Yes that is true, and if ya single would be a bitch but when your a family man (or woman) then multiply the bag limit by the number of people in the house. Might be a bit of a stretch to convince fisheries that your 18mth old did catch all those fish.::):-X;D How are they going to prove who caught those fish......

Ok here is a question that will probably relate to a fair number of us in Ausfish.
You go out and catch a reasonable bag that is legal. You come home and fillet the fish and whack them in the freezer. You do this several times over a season as we do. During this time you are eating the fillets and stockpiling the frames for future crab baits. Are those frames going to get us locked up?

I bloody hope not.
Im sure they must have to have some pretty good evidence to start going throught your freezer. I mean Police need a warrant to search a property.
Once you're fish are filleted and frozen for a while, DNA is going to be the only real way of prooving what it all is.. OR they are really good and could try to get you to cook em up and taste test them ? (jk)
Never known anyone thats been searched anywhere but on the water or at the ramp.
Infact mostly only seen it done in WA for Blue Manners, and once up here (was funny because it was probably the only day we managed a big doughnut. I think they felt sorry for me !

I don't think they need an individualised warrant as they have a special all the time anywhere to anyone - one, so suspicion is all they need but they without your blessing would need to call the police to enforce it on the spot.
Then if you own the house you are deemed in possession (9/10s of the law and all that guff) of the freezer so whatever is in it is yours and only yours...just like if you pull the boat up the ramp before parting the fish out to the rightful owners first unless they are in the car or boat at the time of coarse.
It's all a bag of cats that cannot work fairly for everyone just those that can prove their innocence when called upon.

Just get them to call 10 of your mates. I sure they will swear they live with you. Usually they will only check your place if they have inside information. Your ex

There was a report last year (or maybe the one before) of a bloke in a caravan park at Hervey Bay being inspected in his campsite and his icebox/freezer gone through. He was done for significant over possession of whiting. Apparantly he was coming back to camp with a large haul each day and bragging. One of the other campers probably knocked on him. Fair enough too.
Mark, should I take offence when the fishery boys are out checking catches and when they see me and my boat, they wave me through????:-[
