I'm only new to boats.
We are just trying to figure out what make this old boat would have been.

We lost my father at christmas, and when going through all the family pics i found this pic of the boat we once had.
Pic was Decmber 1978 and being towed by, of all things a volvo
In the hope that nsw maratime had the old rego details i fired them a quick email asking..
the response was....

Hi Chris

We do believe that this boat is still registered with us. However we
cannot be 100% certain it is the same vessel. Unfortunatley there are no
manufacturer or model details about this boat on the database as it is a
very old registration. These details are now mandatory. I have also had
a few people look at the photo and we cannot make out the model which is
the writing on the back right hand side of the vessel. Maybe a photo
shop could zoom in on this writing for you with some clarity to
determine the model?

Good luck

SteberCraft Beaver.
Made around 1971 and rated to 33hp.
There was a Spartan too but it was an open layout.
This maybe of interest. An advertising flier for them.

Information on other Stebercraft of old is here.

They're a great little boat I reckon.
But I might be one eyed. My first boat was a Beaver. I still have it too with the original trailer, windscreen, steering and forward controls.
And mine's faster. It has a red top ;D

Yours could be a Rover too as yours has back to back seating.

I hope that helps :)

Yep, probably the same boat and the same OLD owner who brought it of grandad.
I wish you the best in getting information.

I got $20 worth of scratchies that says it's a SteberCraft.

The label on the back is another giveaway.
All the boats I put in the links up the top are later model boats.
Mine is a 70 or 71 model and has the same label as in Chris' picture.
I had a look through my pictures and I have none of the rear quarters.
I only have pictures the front and the boat is in Brisbane and I'm not.

The windscreen is off in these pictures. I did not want it broken or affected by the weather.

The value could be anything from $3.25 to what-ever and it would depend upon how old matey, the present owner, has looked after it.
To someone who likes new boats it'll be worth about $325 and to someone like me who appreciates older things it could be worth a significant amount of money more.
But if the present owner knows you want it and why then the price goes up again.
But if I saw a boat in the condition close to the picture and it has not been mucked about with adding this and that and cutting this out and adding that then I'd pay around the $2-3000 and I'm a tight wod......but I like old crap.

As a guide I got mine in 1994 and it had a 10hp blueband Merc and it owed me $500 as it was payment for a job.
But the enjoyment I've got out of it is well worth 100 times that price :D

I realise I'm too late with an ID, but I agree it's a Steber Craft.

My dad purchased one in the mid 80's, although a slightly larger 15 foot 1/2 cabin version with a 65 hp Red Band Merc. A very flat hull that went like a shower of Sh!t !! Unfortunately it had the trailer collapse while being towed and the boat was a complete write-off !!

Very nostalgic to read your thread.

Craigie.

i hate stories that end up with a boat being destroyed but it happens.
the pic was taken when i was around 6 or just about to turn 6 or somethig like that. i do have a few memories of being on that with Dad and mum and my older brother.

Funny how the mind starts to remember things as you go into it, like this :)
