hey guys i have been starting to get into jigging offshore but have only been using a tld 25 and a custom made rod that i made for it. but i think its time to upgrade to something better and not sure what to get. i dont really wanna spend alot of money like for the stella but would like something decent i would like a setup for around max. 700 so any ideas would be great.

Hey Steve - Been a couple of threads recently on this very subject...use the seearch function, plenty of good info.

Saragosa, with t-curve jig 200/400 or monster mesh should fit into your budget(Or even a jigwrex)

G'Day Steve,

Welcome to the brotherhood of jigging addicts!;D

Now, I don't have first hand experience with all of the following (just hear say), but for $700, my pick would be the Okuma Salina II ($175 on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Okuma-SALINA-II-16000-Spinning-Jigging-Fishing-Reel_W0QQitemZ120543967126QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_15?hash=item1c10faf796)
with a set of carbontex washers, and the Shimano Jigwrex ($299 http://www.fishing.net.au/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/57), then get some decent PE6 (http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/product_info/language/en/products_id/10724/cPath/30_195_237_406/fishing-line/10-off-300m-70lb-avani-jigging-10x10.html), some shock leader (http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/product_info/language/en/products_id/1872/cPath/30_415_417/fishing-line/varibas-shock-leader-100lb-50m.html).
And that's it, just add water!!! ;D;D;D

if youre after an overhead style jigging setup and wants something light, why not look at the daiwa pluton and a shimano trevala rod.should be able to land both for roundabout your budget with line and carbontex upgrade.8-)

I use a T-Curve 400 and a Shimano Torium 30. It'll land anything, including 150+ kg's of shark...

Edit: I have about 300 metres of 80lb (brand?) braid on there.

Cheers,

Tim

I use a Torium 16 on a T-Curve 200. Its a light versatile outfit that punches well above its weight. I run 65lb Whiplash on mine and it holds a little over 400m of line

Gday Steve,
I have a saragosa 18000, matched onto a wilson live fibre 50 - 80lb popping stick and find it very good for jigging, Cost a tad over $800 when spooled with YGK jigman braid. I find it works well for me.

saragosa 8000 and either diawa monster mesh or catalina rods, not much more then the t,curves but a heap better for jigging, the 3-5pe should be fine

I run a Saragosa 18000 on a T Curve spin 400 with 80lb Varivas for the big stuff, has handled any big AJ's and Kings in SEQ including a few XOS reef sharks.
Have recently bought a Spheros 14000FB on a Live Fibre Deepwater Classic 50lb Jig which I am yet to use.
For the money the Spheros are a fairly good reel but are a GREAT reel with a few modifications. I had an extra bearing put in as well as a Accurate Power T Handle put on and it makes a world of difference.
