Hi mate,
recently got a 798 si. I am having trouble reading the SI for fish and the 2d is a bit of a jumble to me at the moment, but its more than likely the user (me) getting used to it after the Lowrance I had before that.
The screen is very clear with crisp images and very readable in sunny conditions. The menu is really easy to use compared to the old Lowrance. The down imaging is impressive, it tends to show a bit more than the 2d screen. Hope to have more of a play with it at Bribie at easter time.
I am unsure what Ram mount is, but the weathersense apparently doesn't work in Aus yet. Something to do with the satellites or so they say.
The transducer is very prone to sending a jet of spray up into the engine cowl of the outboard, but apparently there is a plug available from BLA for free. I have just built a spray cover I am mounting next week to fix the problem.

Now I may have sounded a bit critical, but that wasn't my intention. I think once I learn how to use it and change the settings correctly it will work like a charm. The only couple of things about the 798 is that it wont take platinum cards yet (maybe later they said) only the gold card, and the screen is a bit small for the SI, but you can reduce the spread and zoom in as well. I would recommend getting the biggest screen you can afford (the 1100 series screen is awesome).
After all that, I would definately recomend the units hey.
Cheers
Steve
