Hey guy's i was thinking about spooling my saragosa 18000 with 80lb braid, i have been offered a 500 yard spool of 50lb fins at a great price. Is 50lb good enough for my saragosa and t curve deep jig 400 or should i go for 80lb, i plan on running a 60 or 80lb wind on leader and will be using knife jigs from 200 to 300 grams and trolling x raps and skirts.

cheers tim :)

80lb for sure, fits 300yds plus backing very easily. I personaly wouldn't go anything less.

80 for sure. I mean why run 50lb when the saragosa has a drag that can handle 80lb imo. Also by running the 80lb you will have a very versatile outift, you can troll for some big hoo, marlin under 80kg even switchbaiting for sailfish. hat outoft would also be perfect for deep water bottom bashing for big reds off fraser island/1770 if you ever venture up that way.

Why not split the diff and go 65lb. I have enough trouble breaking it when I get hooked up

Get another spool Tim, 50lb and 80lb, you know you want to!
The 300yds of 80lb fits perfectly though as we discussed.

Tim,

How many fish do you catch over (rounded down) 30kg, as opposed to how many fish do you catch over 20kg. (I know you get more than your fair share tho).

Yea Ian, but you guys use the drag;D
Tim just wants to snap their necks and winch them into the boat;D
I have to admit heavy braid on a green pelagic certainly lets you feel the fish

The old Spheros Spools will also fit a Saragosa, I use an upgraded drag one for 8kg Mono Billfishing.

TimD,

I get a bit of flak from the Agnes boys for running heavy braid .. (legend has it 500lb braid, now its apparently 1000lb ;D )

well its 80lbs on the Saragosa 18000 with a 100 or 150lb wind on leader, on a Howard Calstar 37kg XH, used it up at agnes for last 2 years and brilliant, will handle jigging, and bottom bashing etc , have even caught snapper floating plastics with that combo on a charter as thats all i had as Lucky Phill.. with 2 ll's nicked my other outfit;D...
