Hi
Im just looking at sounders and there is alot of options and you can spend alot of money. I just need one for my 12ft tinny and I already have a hand held gps with blue chart for that side of things.

Is there anything worth getting for sub $400 kind of money or am I just dreaming.

Any suggestions will be much appriciated

Have a look at the Garmin 300C. It seems pretty good value at around the $350.00 mark for a dual beam color sounder

I'd choose the Lowrance X125,one of the best for that price range.

Eagle 480 - good bang for the buck, especially in shallow waters.

I have a Humminbird Matrix 12. It does the job for me and I like the quick disconnect mount for security.

Eagle 320 or Eagle 480 (if under $400). They are B&W sounders but they are VERY good. I had the Garmin 300C which was ok but the screen size was too small compared to the Eagle 320 or 480. Color is a bit overrated anyway, it is more important to learn what the sounder is showing you than to worry about whether it has color or not... A B&W can tell you pretty much the same info as a color unit anyway with a keen deciphering eye.

Hi Phill, i have the Garmin 300c colour sounder that Horse is suggesting and have no problems at all, you can split screen and zoom.

When your an old bugger like me you appreciate the colour image much easier to see. cheers wayne

If you're not in a hurry keep an eye on the for sale section on the Fishing Monthly site, every now and then you get a few bargin sounders come up. A lot of those guys seem to upgrade as soon as new techs like side scan & HDS hit the market .
