G'day all you yalta devotees
I'm looking at buying a 17' one with 130hp motor.
Will a Commodore comfortably tow this boat? Car has HD tow bar.

Timothy,

A 555hc weighs close on 2 tonns when fueled and loaded. so start from there, what is the cars rated towing capacity.

Regards
HOnda.

towing it with the commodore isnt a problem. more importantly does it have the braking caPacity to stop when towing it?

Towing it won't be a problem, stopping it won't be a problem. Traction at the ramp won't be a problem. About the only possible problem you will have is the height of the towball depending if it's a model with the sports suspension, or if it has been lowered.

How far are you intending on towing it?????? Short distances would be ok but I'm not sure if i'd want to be towing for long distances. And its when something goes wrong when you start to think that maybe it wasn't such a good idea.:o;D

Good idea to throw a transmission cooler on if towing long distance .

I take it your looking at the Yalta 535 all rounder and not the triple 5 like honda900 thought. The 535 all rounder will probably weigh around 1.5 tonn fully fueled and loaded, your commodore will tow it just fine, but as mickyr suggested you should fit a auto transmission cooler.

You mentioned you want to run a 130hp outboard, i thought the 535 was only rated to 120hp

Anyway your a lucky B#STARD, i wish i had enough dough to buy a yalta

cheers tim :)

I tow my 555 with a Mazda Bravo 4x4 (2.5 TD ).

Have to hit the bottom of the Gate Way in third and can get over the top at 80.;D

But bringing it up from the coast I never used 5th gear, sat in 4th all the way.

Commy should be fine. ( auto cooler as others have said and if the back sags too far maybe air bags in your rear coils ).

Cheers Mick.

Put a set of H/D King Springs on the rear you won't regret it and also go with the tranny cooler too

I had a VT? wagon a few years ago with the HD tow pack that included the air adjustable shocks. The shocks were great and made a huge difference over the prior commodore without the shocks. Boat was 6m and 2000kg. Towed it from Brisbane to Hervey Bay regularly without problem.

I have a Yalta 615 and tow it with a pathfinder TD.

I think a commy may have issues on a ramp with a boat the size of the 555.
