I am loking at a Mercury 150hp that was oil injected but is now mixed.

Can any one tell me what the correct ratio should be for this engine? I was told 40:1 but I am thinking that is a little to rich?

50:1 is the go, if you are one to peg it at full throttle for minutes on end then 40:1 might be an option.

I on occasion even go to 70:1 as I stay 99.5% of the time below 4800 rpm and my engine is proped to a bit above the manufacturers recommendation so it gets the easy life.

Not saying you should do this just relaying that there is some scope available.

Put it this way a little bit more oil is always going to be better than too little, too much oil has never hurt any two stroke

Hi Rapson

Manufacturers recommendation is 50:1,i run 45:1 but i have a Merc inline 6 and they can get about noisy in the crank so a extra dob of oil seems to keep it a bit quieter.

I have the Mariner 150 V6 2.0ltr similar to yours. About a 1984 model. I run 50:1 premix and never have any problems. Can get a little smokey idling out of the Mooloolaba harbour but never causes any significant oiling up of the plugs. I always add a fresh 50ltrs to the tank before heading out to counteract any old fuel. Boat sometimes sits for two or three months without use.

Thanks for that guys. I have put a new impeller in today and have run 50:1 and it all looks good. Got a bit more tidying up before I put her in the water but I think it will run fine.
Hope to see you all out there.
Cheers!
