On the repeater if theres a channel you can use from there it will (should) work

On simplex no not likely.

But standing on the beach at night in real good weather simplex might just do it .
I think it would be about 17 miles or?

Joe, yes it will work from there, depending on the channel, 21 will as i have used mine from there, it had no probs at all. i was a little faint on the receiving end but the person talking to me was booming in.

I have heard south port talking on my hand held VHF from manly. whats that? about 90km? it's all about "line of site" as long as nothing is blocking it, would go a fair way.

Remember that Southport is transmitting at 25 watts.

I can hear them from Nudgy with my hand held icom but I doubt they would hear me.

Don't forget ch 81 , the repeater is on Mt Mee and is for communication between the northern and southern ends of the bay.

Cheers Mick.
