Gday All,

I have a mate who has to get a new donk for his 6.7m southwind long boat. He has come across a 115 yammie 4/stroke at a good price but he is not sure about it being too heavy or not. We both have had a look on the web and I have trolled throught past southwind longboat posts but have found nothing that answers his questions. I told him I would put up a post as I am sure that someone will be able to help.

Cheers

TEF

Hi TEF
We ran a 80hp Yam 4stroke then upgraded to a 115hp EFI Yam 4stroke. (which is over the factory max rated power)

The 80hp was lucky to get 28 knots lightly loaded.
The 115hp gave 36 knots on a heavily loaded boat with rescue gear binimi, 100L fuel up the front and 1-2 POB.

They are a fairly heavy motor but I never really noticed it and it never caused any major trim or safety problems even in yucky weather. We had twin batterys in one of the rear hatches and a permatrim fitted. Im not sure what prop it had, just a factory stainless that the dealer originally supplied.

It gave a happy cruise anywhere from 3200 upwards. Best economy was about 16litres per hour around 3600rpm from memory (cant remember exact speed)

Heres a pic when it still had the 80hp fitted. RADAR etc followed later.

The early ones were rated to 90hp and usually were fitted with 90 hp 2stk Yammies

Later models were rated to 100hp and there are plenty here in perth with 100hp 4stk yammies... look like well balanced rigs!!

Your mates should have a compliance plate in the rear well area stating max hp load ppl etc,....

Its the same for later models, so the 115 is going to void your mates insurance...
