Quick report from yesterday.
Went out with Fish The Deep as usual but due to lumpy seas and strong winds we fished the 24's at anchor mainly around Q1.
Few trag, small tailor with many undersized throw back backs.

Interestingly though we found some HUGE baitballs of slimies and yakkas with the screen full from top to bottom over a good hundred meters of ocean or so. We put out livies, under balloons and also unweighted floaters and had some short runs with nothing solid. Baits came in dead, some with holes in the tops of their heads!
Matt decided to pull the pick early and we trolled some skirted hexes back in to the Seaway and picked up 6 hits with three bonito brought in - best hit colour was white. One good fish came off near the boat. All the bonito hit the shorter trolled lures (30-40m back) with the shotgun getting nothing. Birds were working everywhere.
Looks like the inshore summer trolling season is ready to start!
Cheers

Interesting thought about squid by supertinny. Hole was about half the size of the top of a small finger.

sounds like squid to me. I have has same experience at gravel patch. squid would sometimes remain attached right up to the boat.

Definitely squid. Happens quite a lot on shallow bait grounds, when you pin a livey while still catching them. If there is bottom structure with any sort of weed coverage, guaranteed to be squid in the area, and they do chase the bait schools near by.
