Hi

Question for the mechanics and mechanically minded out there:

Is it economically viable to extend a standard LS (20") motor into a XLS (25") motor (leg)

Motor in question is a 200 Opti, with 206 hrs, toying with the idea of a podding (is that a word) the boat.

Thoughts/advice appreciated

Cheers

G'day VS as a boat moves forward the water coming from under the hull rises as it come of the transom. At slow speeds it rises quickly at high speed the angle the water rises is alot less but still rises. So a 20" leg might still do on a pod. If you are going for more hieght to keep the engine out of the water then go for it. If not I think ,For example if you move the motor back say 300mm you will have to raise the motor (20"leg) higher than it is now to have the cav plate in the correct position in the water when the boat is planeing. the cost to convert is quite expensive, the biggest cost is a new driveshaft, best bet is look for a 25 that someone wants to convert to a 20, it does happen sometimes.

I was quoted $600 to get a 90 yam 25 inch reduced to a 20 inch. I guess they were going to keep the parts for someone who was going to do the reverse change. May pay to do the ring around.

ring these guys 0755937668 QLD Outboard Wreckers.. they can extend your opti no problem at all. They will extend the driveshaft and warranty their work.

They have done a heap (more than 50) cut and shuts on drive shafts so they know what their doing. I can vouch for them doing a few 200-225's for me personally.
