In my see-saw world of 'which brand sounder to buy' I'm back to Lowrance (either HDS-5 or -5x). I'm a bit confused as to which transducer I should buy (83/200 or 50/200). I thought the decision was to which depth range you were likely to be using it in (50m and less, the 83/200 , >50m the 50/200). I was told by a mate it has to do with fresh/salt application. CAn anyojne here explain the difference - and make a recommendation for me.

I'm based in Bundy and the boat will be used for river/estuary with some outside work.

Thanks.

83/200 are generally used for fresh water,

50/200 for Saltwater, the 50 gives better depth penetration.

Have a look at the following.
